Welcome to Season 2017
We hope everyone gets off to a flying start with lots of wins and most importantly enjoying their Rugby League. 2016 was such a great year with plenty of success across all facets of our club. The Hills Bulls continues to grow and encompasses one of the largest junior Rugby League numbers in New South Wales incorporating both boys and girls teams. In late 2016 we introduced some great initiatives to support the growth of our players, most notably the Bulls Academy which aims to prepare our junior players for the following season as well as our “Mini Bulls” program providing our 4 – 8 years olds with a great introduction to the fundamentals of Rugby League. This year we have continued to build the senior teams and we are really excited to have A-grade and C-grade in strong numbers.
The Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield squads go from strength to strength and have continued to build recruits to the club’s ranks. Feleti Mateo and Heath L’Estrange will bring all their NRL experience to what is already a great mix of youth and experience. Make sure to get down to Crestwood this year to support the senior teams. It is also a fantastic way for our juniors to watch the older players and build their games. Our Masters team is ready to go again this year for those who just can’t hang up the boots and this year has players up to 52 years old! The Hills Bulls has fully embraced women’s rugby league and had a stellar 2016 taking out the premiership in our inaugural year.
Our commitment to the girls has brought together a fantastic coaching staff of experienced coaches as well as appearances from the Hills Bulls Senior players for 2017 as we continue to build for the future. While Rugby League remains the cornerstone of the club we have great history in Hills District Touch Football which is now in its 35th year. Adding to the Bulls club is the massive Baulkham Hills Oztag competition that competes at the Bull Pit almost every night throughout summer hosting over 3000 players. At the recent 2017 NSW Oztag State Cup the Bulls had our most successful carnival moving up one place on 2016 to 5th in the Club Championship. Season 2017 continues to build on the legacy of 50 years of great sport at Crestwood.
The Board is committed to the growth of the club and to provide great facilities not only for the Hills Bulls but also the broader Hills District. This includes the expansion of the clubhouse and plans for a re-development of the playing facilities. The clubhouse is a significant investment with over $300,000 invested in the new canteen, change rooms and provisions for the second level including slab. We would like to thank our sponsors who continue to contribute to the building and to date have completed over $200,000 in kind which is a reflection of the generosity within the club. To provide all families with up to date information and to showcase the lighter side of the club we will be launching a new and exciting website as well as social media campaigns throughout the year. So keep an eye out. It is important that the club continues to retain and embrace our family values that have made the Hills Bulls so successful. To do this we need each and every family member, player and official to chip in and support their teams on the field and assist with logistics where possible. A great family works when everyone plays a part and history suggests that the Bulls family will continue to work together to be one of Australia’s great sporting clubs again in season 2017.
